Thursday, September 2, 2010 I was taking the dogs out for their last run of the day when I found these flowers poking over the wall. Monday, August 30, 2010 A pastel sketch from life drawing at Sketchy Doodle yesterday. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 I had these things called Shrinky Dinks when I was a kid. I recently found the old kit for making them, so I did a few creature sketches based on my favorite Shrinky Dink drawing templates. Sunday, August 22, 2010 A composite of sketches from life drawing today. Friday, August 20, 2010 This week sketching has been all about the bones. Saturday, August 14, 2010 Today at the Sketchy Doodle drawing session we had a full-size skeleton model sitting in a plush chair. I could probably draw this guy every single week and not get bored. Sunday, August 8, 2010 From life drawing today, a long pose (two hours minus breaks) done in pastels. The model was actually wearing a bikini but I decided to skip it. Saturday, August 7, 2010 Another snippet from "The Off Season", a painting that I've been working on in the background. Yes, there will be a snake. Friday, August 6, 2010 I haven't posted a new painting in awhile, so I wanted to show a little bit of a painting that I've been working on intermittently, between other projects. It started several months ago with this very rough sketch. Sunday, August 1, 2010 Today we were most fortunate to have "Madam C" as our life-drawing model. Now how many models do you know who bring their own sword. Too cool. Saturday, July 31, 2010 We had a group of people at the Heard Museum for Sketchcrawl #28 today. If you need ideas for creatures or monsters, the museum's Indian art gallery is definitely the place to go. Friday, July 30, 2010 I've been practicing figure sketching this week using the Wacom tablet and poses from Posmaniacs. Up until now all of my figure drawing has been on paper, and there's definitely an adjustment to be made when using the stylus. Thursday, July 29, 2010 They had a great life-drawing model last night at the Scottsdale Art School. Saturday, July 24, 2010 I was slow today and kept running out of time to draw the poses. Did a few touch-ups on this after the session was over. Saturday, July 17, 2010 Today we were reminded to appreciate our life-drawing models because the model didn't show up and we had to do the poses ourselves. The group was great about it though. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 A few sketches from last night at The Lost Leaf Gallery and Bar. Saturday, July 10, 2010 For the first time today at Sketchy Doodle we started with a set of 2-minute warm-up sketches. Some people loved them, others were slightly traumatized. I'm thinking they're probably a good idea. Twenty minute sketch... Wednesday, July 7, 2010 From life drawing tonight, compressed charcoal on newsprint. My fifth attempt in a four hour session. Sunday, July 4, 2010 Another crayon doodle from the Drink and Draw. I do like a good pile of snakes. Saturday, July 3, 2010 We had our first ever drink and draw at Sketchy Doodle tonight. No model, just drawing from imagination while having some good food, spirits, and conversation. Wednesday, June 30, 2010 Guess where I was today. In case of confusion, this is not a self portrait. Another sketch from a book in the waiting room. Saturday, June 26, 2010 I wanted to end the day on a better note, so I decided to go back to something more familiar. While sketching this, my niece walked over and sat down to draw with her own pencil and paper. Saturday, June 26, 2010 More life drawing sketches from Sketchy Doodle today. This model came up with her own poses, which for me is fantastic. It lets me focus more on the drawing and less on the organizing. Saturday, June 19, 2010 Sketches from life drawing today at Sketchy Doodle. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 Bought this painting from a local artist named Gilead. It's pretty big, about 4.5'x3', and heavy too.
