Columbia

I created this design in tribute to the Columbia space shuttle, which exploded on re-entry to earth on February 1, 2003.

The seven gold figures reaching towards the stars represent the seven astronauts who died. The stars themselves have the same shape as the figures, indicating a connection between the people and the stars. The ring around the planet traces out a space shuttle orbit, and the planet itself, a blue green globe without any specific countries, emphasizes the effect of this event throughout the world.
